What Makes Our School Unique? by Connie Knowlden, TLC Director
I was asked recently what made Talega Life Preschool different than any other preschool in our area. After a little head scratching, I wrote a list of unique qualities that distinguish our school.
1. A Variety of Teaching Styles I consider our teaching styles a mix of developmental and academic. The 3 year old classes are definitely very developmental. The 4 year old classes vary from very developmental to varying mixes of academic/developmental teaching depending on the individual styles of our teachers. Parents can find a teaching style that suits their child at our school.
2. Art Studio Each classroom has a turn in the art studio everyday. Process art is encouraged. Process art means that the act of creating is more important than the finished product. We encourage creativity and imagination rather than producing “cookie cutter” art projects that all look the same. The children can have the chance to try a variety of art materials and techniques. There is a large communal art easel available to the children each day.
3. Large Inside Play Area Our multi-purpose room is equipped with sensory tables, dress-up costumes, a kid’s kitchen, dramatic play areas and block area. The children rotate through this area each day (2 classes at a time). We have enough open area for group games and gatherings. This room is wonderful on rainy days!
4. Traditional Christmas Pageant All of our children participate in our pageant which re-enacts the birth of Christ. Our Sanctuary is full of angels, shepherds, sheep and wise men. We supply all the costumes. The children love performing. It tops off your Christmas season to see your child as a star.
5. Weekly Chapel Program The children help act out the bible story on stage with props and drama. The children love to sing while Pastor Pondo plays his guitar. The children memorize one bible verse a month. We encourage children to love kindness and to treat each other the way they would wish to be treated themselves.
6. School Library We have developed a large school library this year. We currently have approximately 800 books. We encourage having your child check out a book a week from our library. Fostering a love of literature early in life makes such a difference in your child’s education.
7. Outstanding Staff We have wonderful teachers here at Talega Life Preschool. Each teacher brings their unique skills here to our school. I have rarely worked at any school where the staff is so compatible. Each teacher freely shares ideas and activities with the rest of the staff. There is definitely a camaraderie here at Talega Life that is rare and refreshing.
8. New Enrichment Program Next Fall Children may be enrolled for extended hours (8:45 a.m.-1:45 p.m. every school day except Friday). The cost will be an extra $100 per month. This is specifically designed for 4 year olds. The program will offer science, motor development, art studio, movement & music, and storytelling.
9. Lunch Bunch At times your child might want to simply eat lunch and play with their friends after school. We offer lunch bunch Monday-Thursday. If you call in the morning, your child can come to Lunch Bunch even if it is not his/her school day.
10. Summer Program Your child can enjoy a themed summer program at our preschool. Last summer we enjoyed Art Camp, Science Camp, Fairy Tale Week, Ancient Rome and Circus Week. At the end of summer we staged a preschool circus grand finale.
11. New Facility & Playground Our spacious modern facility opened less than three years ago. We make it a priority to keep the school clean & organized.

Our Program and Philosophy
Our aim is to make your child’s first school experience stellar!
Rather than concentrating on rote memorization, we want to promote discovery through hands-on activities.
We will introduce your child to a creative new world of art, literature, science, drama, and music. The activities are all geared to your child’s age and ability. We want your child’s first venture into a school to be a rewarding experience.
Weekly chapel is an important part of our program. Your child will learn Bible stories & songs. We will talk about the social ethics of caring for one another. We will encourage your child to cooperate and empathize with their classmates and respect their teachers.
